ARENA replaces THRESHOLD at ROCK ITTERVOORT 2012
We’re proud to announce that ARENA will replace THRESHOLD as headliner of ROCK ITtervoort 2012.
After the announcement that Threshold cancelled all their april gigs, including Rock Ittervoort, we started searching for a good replacement.
We’re convinced that Arena is even more than that. Arena returns after 4 years to Ittervoort for an exclusive gig in Europe.
Arena is a very populair progressive rockband, founded in 1995 by Clive Nolan (Pendragon) and Mick Pointer (ex-Marillion).
Musically the band's style ranges from symphonic to hard rock. At the end of last year, they released their latest CD “The Seventh Degree of Separation”.
With this album they are still one of the best bands on the English scene.
ARENA vervangt THRESHOLD op ROCK ITTERVOORT 2012.
Wij zijn er bijzonder trots op om te melden dat ARENA de plaats van Threshold heeft ingenomen als headliner van Rock Ittervoort 2012.
Nadat Threshold al hun optredens in april 2012 had gecanceld zijn we op zoek gegaan naar een waardige vervanger.
We zijn van mening dat we met ARENA aan deze eis ruimschoots voldoen. Arena zal na 4 jaar weer terugkomen naar Ittervoort voor een zeer exclusieve gig.
Met het vorige optreden nog in ons geheugen, zijn we overtuigd van wederom een geweldige avond in C.C. de Mortel.
Deze enorm populaire progressieve rockband Arena werd in 1995 opgericht door Clive Nolan (o.a. Pendragon) en Mick Pointer (ex-Marillion).
In 16 jaar heeft de Britse formatie een vaste plek veroverd in de eredivisie van de symfonische rock.
Naast Pointer op drums en Nolan op toetsen, bestaat Arena verder uit John Mitchell (o.a. Frost, It Bites) op gitaar,
John Jowitt (ex IQ) op basgitaar en zanger Paul Manzi. Manzi, bekend van onder andere The Oliver Wakeman Band, nam vorig jaar het stokje over van Rob Sowden.
De muziek van Arena kan het beste omschreven worden als neoprog, opvolgers van groepen als Genesis, Camel en Pink Floyd.
Veel heavy elementen en stevige rockpassages zitten in de nummers verwerkt. In november vorig jaar is
het nieuwe album 'The Seventh Degree of Separation' op de markt verschenen. Met dit album hebben ze hun positie aan
de top van de internationale prog-scene weer eens bevestigd. Zoals gezegd hun optreden op Rock ITtervoort is zeer exclusief.
Arena zal in dit voorjaar geen verdere concerten geven in Europa !!

Threshold zal komend jaar de headliner zijn op de 6e editie van ROCK ITtervoort. We zijn er bijzonder trots op dat we ook nu weer één van de bekendste progrock/metal bands uit Engeland bereid hebben gevonden om naar Ittervoort te komen. We zijn er dan ook van overtuigd dat, net als voorgaande jaren met oa Pendragon, Riverside en Arena, ook 2012 weer een succes zal gaan worden.
Threshold is één van de bekendere bands uit de progressive metal scene. Threshold is al meer dan 20 jaar actief en heeft met 8 albums en optredens in meer dan 18 landen een zeer goede reputatie opgebouwd zowel live als ook op CD. Zeker na de terugkeer van meesterzanger Damian Wilson (oa Ayreon, Star one, Maiden United etc. etc.) zijn ze alleen maar succesvoller geworden. In 2012 zal Threshold’s 9e studio album verschijnen. Hun vorige album “Dead Reckoning” is in veel magazines bekroond tot CD van de maand en heeft zelfs de Europese charts gehaald. Met de single “Pilot in the sky of dreams”, die ook op de soundtrack van Hollywoodfilm In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale stond, hebben ze de CRS Song of the Year-award gewonnen.
Threshold zal als promotie van de nog te verschijnen CD maar enkele optredens verzorgen. Één daarvan is als headliner van ROCK ITtervoort 2012 !!

THRESHOLD (UK), HAKEN (UK) en SUN CAGED (NL) zijn de bands die zullen optreden tijdens ROCK ITtervoort 2012. Deze 6e editie van ROCK ITtervoort zal, net zoals voorgaande jaren met o.a. Riverside, Pendragon en Pure Reason Revolution, in het teken staan van progressieve rock/metal. Bovengenoemde combinatie van bands zal garant staan voor een avond progressieve muziek van het hoogste niveau. We zijn er trots op dat we naast de ervaren headliner THRESHOLD ook Engeland’s grootste belofte HAKEN kunnen presenteren. De avond zal geopend worden door Sun Caged, topper uit de Nederlandse progressieve scene.
De 6e editie van ROCK ITtervoort zal plaatsvinden op vrijdag 13 april 2012 in C.C. de Mortel, Ittervoort (Midden Limburg, nabij de Belgische en Duitse grens).

HAKEN wordt momenteel gezien als de verassing uit de Engelse prog-scene. Haken is in 2007 opgericht door enkele van de beste muzikanten uit de Londense scene. Na een paar maanden mocht men al openen voor Riverside en sindsdien hebben ze alleen nog maar voor volle zalen opgetreden rondom Londen. Ook hebben ze inmiddels op bekende festivals gestaan als Progpower, Summer’s End en Lorelei’s Night of the prog. De band heeft een uniekse sound door de combinatie van progmetal ala Dream Theater en Shadow Gallery met “Old School Prog” van bijv. Genesis. Hun debuut ”Aquarius” uit 2010 is zeer goed ontvangen in Europa, Japan en zelfs Amerika. In Oktober 2011 heeft Haken “Visions” uitgebracht. Deze CD krijgt zelfs nog betere recensies dan het debuut. De muziekpers over de gehele wereld is dan ook unaniem in hun oordeel: Haken is de toekomst van Prog-metal !!
SUN CAGED is een progressieve metal band uit eigen land. Sun Caged is opgericht door ex-Lemur Voice gitarist Marcel Coenen in 1999. Sun Caged is beïnvloed door bands als Dream Theater en zelfs Iron Maiden. De unieke sound van de band combineert deze invloeden met genres als jazz en fusion. In het verleden heeft de band al opgetreden met grootheden als Queensrÿche, Spocks Beard en Fates Warning. De band heeft inmiddels 3 albums uitgebracht. Het laatste album is dit jaar verschenen met als titel “The Lotus Effect”. Alle drie de albums zijn wereldwijd zeer goed ontvangen door zowel fans alsook de media.

Rock Ittervoort is an annual prog-event in Ittervoort, a small place in the south of The Netherlands nearby Germany and Belgium (Aachen, Düsseldorf, Maaseik (B) and Hasselt (B)). Previous years we had bands as Pendragon, Riverside, Arena and Karmakanic feat. Roine Stolt.

HAKEN is one of the most exciting sounds to emerge from the modern progressive movement. Formed in 2007, Haken is a virtuoso and eclectic progressive rock/metal band from London, England, comprising some of the country's finest young musicians. Within months of their first show in July 2007, Haken were billed in support of Riverside. Since then they have performed headlining sets to packed houses around London. They also performed on many prestige festivals as Progpower, Summers End and Loreley’s Night of the Prog. The band melds metal with progressive rock, drawing influences from contemporary bands like Dream Theater and Shadow Gallery as well as "old school" icons Genesis and Queen. Their debut CD “Aquarius” was well received in Europe, Japan and the states. In October 2011 they released “Visions”. This CD gets even better responses as their debut. Press in the UK and the rest of the world are convinced: Haken is the future of prog-metal !!
SUN CAGED is a progressive metal band originating in The Netherlands. Sun Caged is formed by ex-Lemur Voice guitarist Marcel Coenen in the spring of 1999. Taking influences from artists in the metal genre such as Dream Theater, and even Iron Maiden, Sun Caged has a unique sound which also incorporates influences from jazz and fusion. They have performed as support acts for bands such as Vanden Plas, Queensrÿche, Spock's Beard, and Fates Warning. The band released 3 albums, a self-titled debut, their second album “Artemisia”, and in June 2011 they released their latest effort “The Lotus Effect”. All albums received critical acclaim from the media.
